IDAHO FALLS — Two students at Compass Academy in Idaho Falls acquired some countrywide recognition for a documentary they created.

Addison Willis and Petra Christensen had been awarded $250 in C-SPAN’s 2023 StudentCam competitiveness for their film, “Creating a New Education and learning for our Era.”

StudentCam is a national online video documentary level of competition that encourages pupils to imagine critically about difficulties that affect our communities and our country, in accordance to the contest’s web page.

In this year’s opposition, college students had been requested to make a video about which situation they would make their prime precedence if they were freshly-elected users of Congress.

As videos throughout the nation ended up submitted, Addison and Petra selected to concentrate on “encouraging the implementation of a greater range of understanding chances for pupils.”

The duo never imagined their venture would get that much, and they are fired up about the recognition.

This is not the duo’s first foray into filmmaking.

“Petra and I had to enter the international Planet of 8 Billion movie contest very last yr for a venture in our AP Human Geography class,” Addison recalled. “During the undertaking rollout, we viewed a video from two previous Compass Academy Students…And which is when the gears started off turning.”

And they had some instructors who assisted spark some inspiration.

“Ms. Dasher, Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Johnson, and Mrs. Smede (Compass Academy’s Director) were being massive helpers on this venture,” Petra claimed.

The girls realized they would will need to decide on a subject matter that experienced own relevance to them. Drawing on their knowledge attending a job-based college that challenged them to master skills, like conversation and time administration, served them make their choice.
