Dinkum Crafting and Unlocks Guide
In our Dinkum Crafting guide, we’ll tell you how Crafting works and how you can unlock new items for Crafting such as better tools and new workbenches!
How Dinkum Crafting Works
Dinkum Crafting always takes place at some kind of workbench — there is no option to Craft items in your hand. Generally speaking, you’ll only be working with a handful of workbenches:
- Crafting Bench – Craft various decorative items, other workbenches, and other useful items
- Smelter – Turn Ore into Bars
- Table Saw – Turn Wood into Planks
- Camp Fire / BBQ / Cooking Table / Keg / Grain Mill – Used to Cook Food
Additionally, some NPCs will occasionally help out with Dinkum Crafting. Franklyn, for example, will make advanced items for you (such as Power Tools) for a price in Dinks plus the materials to make the item in question.
How to Unlock Items in Dinkum
There are four ways to unlock items in Dinkum:
- Progressing the story
- Purchasing Permits from Fletch
- Purchasing Crafting recipes from Franklyn
- Getting Crafting recipes as rewards for completing Favors or Tasks

Story Unlocks
These items are unlocked as you progress through the story, mainly by talking to Fletch.
Camp Fire
- Prerequisites – Complete the first few objectives on Day 1.
- Crafting Cost – 3 Stone, 2 Gum Log
Used for Cooking Meat and Fruit.
Crude Furnace
- Prerequisites – Collect materials for Fletch on Day 1
- Crafting Cost – 3 Stone, 1 Camp Fire, 5 Tin Ore
Smelts Tin and Copper Ore into their respective Bars.
Nails
- Prerequisites – Give Fletch a Tin Bar after Crafting Crude Furnace.
- Crafting Cost – 1 Tin
Wooden Crate
- Prerequisites – Give Fletch a Tin Bar after Crafting Crude Furnace.
- Crafting Cost – 1 Palm Wood Plank, 2 Gum Wood Plank, 1 Nails
Allows you to store items.
Permit Unlocks
These items are automatically unlocked when you purchase certain Permits.
Animal Collection Point
- Prerequisites – Trapping License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 2 Palm Wood Plank, 2 Hard Wood Plank, 1 Nails
Allows you to sell Trapped Animals for Dinks. Your Trap is returned the following day in the mail, along with your pay.
Animal Trap
- Prerequisites – Trapping License Level 2
- Crafting Cost – 1 Iron Bar, 1 Hard Wood Plank, 2 Old Spring
A sturdier Animal trap made with Iron.
Basic Hammer
- Prerequisites – Unlock Hunting License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 1 Gum Wood Plank, 3 Tin Bar
Basic Spear
- Prerequisites – Unlock Hunting License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 1 Gum Wood Plank, 1 Tin bar
Bird Coop
- Prerequisites – Handling License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 4 Copper Bar, 4 Spinifex Tuft, 2 Tin Sheet, 3 Gum Wood Plank, 4 Nails
Gives Chooks somewhere to live on your island.
Brick Bridge
- Prerequisites – Building License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 4 Bag of Cement, 15 Stone
Brick Fence
- Prerequisites – Landscaping License Level 2
- Crafting Cost – 2 Stone, 1 Bag of Cement
Brick Path
- Prerequisites – Landscaping License Level 1

Turns Wheat into Flour and Sugarcane into Sugar.

Scythe

Used to cut grass and some Farming Crops (such as Sugarcane).
Simple Animal Trap
- Prerequisites – Trapping License Leve l1
- Crafting Cost –
Captures any wild Animal that walks on top of it. Reduce an Animal’s health before trapping to prevent it from escaping.
Stone Steps
- Prerequisites – Landscaping License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 1 Brick Path, 1 Bag of Cement
Tin Fence
- Prerequisites – Landscaping License Level 2
- Crafting Cost – 4 Tin Sheet
Tin Gate
- Prerequisites – Landscaping License Level 2
- Crafting Cost – 2 Tin Sheet
Windmill
- Prerequisites – Building License Level 2
- Crafting Cost – 20 Tin Sheet, 5 Old Gear, 5 Old Spring, 5 Iron Bar, 2 Old Wheel
Makes certain workbenches work faster when placed adjacent to the Windmill.
Wooden Bat
- Prerequisites – Unlock Hunting License Level 1
- Crafting Cost – 1 Gum Wood Plank, 2 Spinifex Resin

Bomb
- Prerequisites – Donate Shiny Discs to Franklyn.

Brick Flower Bed

Allows you to place flowers for decoration.
Chainsaw
- Prerequisites – Donate Shiny Discs to Franklyn.

Unknown function, presumably a better Axe.
Charging Station

Charges Power Tools like the Chainsaw or Metal Detector over time.
Cheese Maker

Makes Cheese from Milk.
Compactor
- Prerequisites – Donate Shiny Discs to Franklyn.

Destroys terrain to make it level. The fastest way to flatten land.
Copper Street Lamp

Gacha Machine
- Prerequisites – Donate Shiny Discs to Franklyn.

Unknown function. Presumably gives prizes when used.
Helicopter

The fastest way to travel short of the Tele-Tower.
Jack Hammer

Motorbike

Allows speedier travel on land.
Quarry
- Prerequisites – Donate Shiny Discs to Franklyn.
- Crafting Cost – 70,000 Dinks, 1 Day, 5 Old Gear, 1 Old Contraption, 3 Old Spring, 1 Button Board, 1 Old Toy
Automatically spawns barrels or Ore nodes one at a time in the four spaces surrounding it when placed on the ground.
Repair Table

Allows you to expend a Repair Kit to repair all of the Tools in your pockets.
